How VirginiaBallots.com works
Virginia lets registered voters join a permanent absentee list. Once you are on that list, your local general registrar mails you a ballot for every election in which you are eligible to vote, sent to the address on your voter registration record.
- You complete the short form on our home page, including the last four digits of your Social Security number (required on the official form) and a drawn signature.
- The application includes the voter’s statement. Virginia’s State Board of Elections accepts electronic signatures on absentee applications when the completed form notes that it includes an electronic signature.
- We send the signed PDF to your local general registrar.
- Your registrar processes the application. You should receive confirmation from Virginia within about two weeks. Confirmation comes from the registrar or the Department of Elections — not from this website.
This site is not elections.virginia.gov and not a local registrar’s office. We cannot add you to the list ourselves. If your registration address, name, or locality is wrong, the registrar may reject the application.
