How we handle your information
VirginiaBallots.com collects only what the official absentee application requires to be processed, plus a locality so we can email the correct registrar.
What we collect
- Name, registration address, city, apartment or suite, ZIP code, and locality
- Last four digits of your Social Security number (required by the official form)
- Telephone number and email address
- A drawn electronic signature and the date you signed
How we use it
We write the information onto the Virginia SBE-701/703 form and send the signed document to your local general registrar so the application can be delivered and tracked. We do not sell this information. We do not use it for advertising.
How we protect it
The last four digits of your Social Security number are encrypted at rest. We do not write that number into application logs. The site is designed to run over HTTPS in production.
Who receives it
Your local general registrar (the office that must receive the application for it to count). Registrars are public election officials. This site is not the Virginia Department of Elections.
